The Trace Neighbor icon in the context menu lets you see how one or more selected nodes are successively connected to the rest of the graph. Exploring connections can suggest ways to simplify or transform the graph, or to enhance it with additional data. Using Trace Neighbor also reveals sub-graphs or individual nodes that aren’t connected to your selected nodes.

To use Trace Neighbor:

  1. Select one or more nodes in the graph using any selection method.

  2. Click the Trace Neighbor icon in the context toolbar.

  3. A slider shows the maximum number of connections from the selected nodes to their furthest connection in the graph. If the selected nodes have no connections, the slider does not appear.

  4. Move the slider to the right to view each additional connection.

The connected nodes and edges are highlighted, but not selected.
